Fallow deer originally came from Asia and were only introduced into Europe in the 18th centrury. They are ideal for breeding in a park because, as far as biotope and husbandry needs are concerned, they are not particularly demanding. When fallow deer are kept in parks or on farms it is generally for the venison. There are however breeders who concentrate on the stag’s trophies.
Horst Tristl’s game park near Munich and the Royal Deer Park in Copenhagen are examples of such farms. Heavy trophies go hand in hand with heavy body mass.
The production of breeding stock is also the main purpose of our Fallow deer – with strong bucks carrying antlers of up to 6kg. Our stock comes from Horst Tristl which, as far as the trophy quality is concerned, is one of the top deer farms in Germany. Horst Tristl runs his farm using various blood lines, such as Kösching (Wittelsbacher), Holstein (Liebenburger Damschaufler) but also Hungarian blood (Gujlaj). Bucks in the 3rd head achieve trophy weights of around 3 kg. Bucks in the 4th and 5th head have a body weight of 120 to 130kg.
Does weigh between approx. 60 and 68kg. We will continue to breed stock in the same way as and following the philosophy of Horst Tristl.
